Case study: Design and Structural Work to a new Basement Area and Extension
What the client required

The basement floor of a four storey house was dark and gloomy. It was made up of a number of small rooms and did not take advantage of the access onto the garden. Whilst the client wanted the rest of the house to retain its period feel, they wanted the basement to be open plan with contemporary decor and furnishings.

Solution
We tackled the structural issues first, commissioning a surveyor and structural engineer to solve the technical problems associated with removing load bearing walls in the basement of a four storey house. Once all the technical issues were resolved, our project manager organised final plans and specifications with neighbours, planning permission and building control with the necessary documents approved before work was carried out. With the new space organised and building under way, our interior designer came on board to design the new kitchen and the access stairs to the ground floor.

Result
A large, modern, open plan kitchen and large dining room with living area that as plenty of storage space.
