Case study: New kitchen with Dining area and Living area
Problem - under utilisation of space in a flat

The layout in a 3 bedroom flat conversion had not made effective use of the available space. A large, light and airy room looking onto the garden had been divided into a small kitchen and living area, whilst the large dining room directly behind was dark and underutilised, a room to walk through rather than spend any time in. The client wanted better use made of the overall space in these two areas and a new and larger kitchen.

Solution
We recommended moving the kitchen into the dining room, therefore solving the problem of a larger kitchen. Another opening was made in the wall between the two rooms to let in more light, which meant that, together with better overall lighting design, the old dining room, which is now the kitchen, was no longer dark and dingy. A larger, brighter kitchen was created and the layout designed in such a way to direct anyone walking through to the next room around the kitchen, rather than through it, therefore getting rid of the corridor effect. The area previously given over to the kitchen was made into a dining area overlooking the garden and the other half of the room remained as a living area.

Result
Much better use of the available space and a larger kitchen.
